Foundation of a Healthy Lifestyle embraces the seven dimensions of wellness and discusses health issues that are relevant to developing and maintaining a healthy lifestyles. Health issues such as financial wellness, nutrition, exercise, smoking drugs, alcohol, sexual behavior, sexually transmitted disease, personal relationships, weight management, stress, emotional and intellectual wellness and other issues that are critical in the quest to develop and maintain an optimum level of wellness.
The obesity epidemic that is plaguing our country is a grave concern for schools, physicians, parents, health departments, health organizations, and employers. Many of us live sedentary lifestyles and have poor eating habits which are contributing factors to this epidemic. As a health educator, Ms. Marshina Baker, thinks it is befitting to accompany Foundations of a Healthy Lifestyle, 2nd Edition with a CD-ROM program called Nutri Wellness Plus. It is designed for students to take self-responsibility for their own health. Students can manage their weight, improve their eating habits, plan their meal and activities and improve their physical performance.
Marshina Baker is a lecturer at Bowie State University and serves as an adjunct faculty at Prince George's Community College and Northern Virginia Community College. She teaches health and physical education classes at the aforementioned colleges an university. Her career includes teaching health and physical education at elementary schools and middle schools in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. She has served as a physical fitness specialist teaching physical exercise and implementing recreational and physical activities for senior citizens.
Ms. Baker received her B.S. degree from Saint Augustine's College and M.S degree from North Carolina Central University. She is a member of the American Alliance for Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development; she is affiliated with the American Association for Health Education and National Association for Sports and Physical Education.
Marshina was recognized by Who Who's Among America's Teacher in 2005 and 2006 and Who Who's of America Women 2007.
